Get Digitranslator and SMPTE timecode ruler for $149

If you are an instructor or student, and buy the 7.1 version of M-Powered Academic, it comes with Digitranslator and a SMPTE timecode ruler.
So, instead of spending $1200,- for DVToolkit, you get these 2 important items (that should just be part of the software), and an Ilok all for $149,-

Converting Sessions without Digitranslator

Alot of folks at some point or another need to transfer their session to or from PT's. And of course the problem is that Digidesign wants to charge too much for an option that everyone agrees should be free and part of the software. OMF/AAF import and Export. I was giving some thought this weekend on how to transfer a session if you don't have Digitranslator, and I think I've figured a way out how to do it. First, this is NOT a crack. It relies on you knowing someone anywhere in the world who has digitranslator, and has 5 minutes to convert the session. I was able to test it today at work going from Nuendo AAF to Pt's and then fromPT's back to Nuendo using AAF. If someone would like to try it with OMF, I'll explain what to do. This is how it works. Let's say you need to transfer your session from Nuendo, becasue you're taking it to a PT's place. Do an AAF/OMF export that refers to the audio. Do NOT embed the files. For full compatability keep the name of the files under 32 characters. Now zip just the session file, as it will reduce the size of the session considerably. Find a friend, anywhere in the world, with Digitranslator. Email him your session file, he can open it, and choose to refer to the audio. He'll end up with a session that of course has nothign but missing audio. He saves that session, emails it back to you, you open it in Pro-Tools and relink your audio files. Done.
